Raila Odinga Calls for Probe into Chopper Crash that Claimed General Ogolla's Life

Raila Odinga, leader of the One Kenya alliance, has called for a thorough investigation into the tragic helicopter accident that claimed the life of Chief of Defence Forces General Francis Ogolla. In a statement released on April 19, 2024, Raila expressed his heartfelt condolences to the family of General Ogolla and the entire Kenyan military community.

"Today, we mourn the loss of a decorated soldier, General Francis Ogolla. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and the families of those who perished alongside him," Raila stated. He commended General Ogolla's unwavering dedication to serving the nation and praised his vision for a stronger and more professional military.

However, Raila also raised concerns about the state of military equipment, citing several incidents involving Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) aircraft. "There have been many near-death encounters with security aircraft, and we must address this issue urgently," he remarked. Raila called upon the government to undertake a complete overhaul and modernization of security equipment, in line with General Ogolla's vision.

Raila stressed the importance of a transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding General Ogolla's death. "The government owes this country a thorough, professional, and transparent investigation. Only such an inquiry will provide closure to the family and ensure peace for the entire nation," he asserted.

Ogolla met his death Thursday afternoon alongside nine other military officers in a chopper crash in Marakwet East.

He is set to be laid rest on April 21.
