Former Murang’a Governor Wanted by EACC

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has issued a compelling directive aimed at former Murang’a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria, along with his wife Jane Waigwe Kimani and six other individuals, demanding their immediate appearance at its offices by Tuesday, April 16th.

In a bid to address allegations of graft, the anti-graft body has mandated Wa Iria and his associates to report to either the EACC Headquarters in Nairobi or the nearest EACC regional office by 8 am on Tuesday, without any exceptions.

The suspects implicated in this directive include Patrick Kagumu Mukuria, the former county secretary, and individuals associated with M/S Top Image Media Consultancy Ltd and M/S Value View Ltd. Among them are Jane Wanjiru Mbuthia, David Maina Kiama, David Maina Njeri, Solomon Mutura Kimani, and Peter Muturi Karanja, who served as Wa Iria's Personal Assistant.

The urgency of this directive stems from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Renson Ingonga's approval to press charges against them in court for alleged involvement in procurement irregularities and conflicts of interest amounting to KSh140 million.

The decision to charge these suspects follows an extensive investigation conducted by the EACC, as highlighted in a statement from the Office of the DPP (ODPP).

This move underscores the relentless efforts by law enforcement agencies to hold public officials accountable for their actions and to combat corruption at all levels. It also serves as a reminder that those who engage in malfeasance will face the full force of the law, regardless of their stature or position.

As the legal process unfolds, all eyes will be on the proceedings, with the hope that justice will be served and that measures will be taken to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future. The public's trust in governance institutions hinges on the swift and impartial handling of cases involving corruption and abuse of power.
