6 Killed in Makueni Road Accident Involving Lorry and Matatu at Ngoluni Junction


At least six people lost their lives on Friday, November 21, after a fatal road accident involving a lorry and a 14-seater matatu in the Mbooni area of Makueni County.

The tragic crash occurred at Ngoluni Junction along the newly tarmacked road in Mbooni East.



According to initial reports, the speeding lorry reportedly lost control before veering off the road and ramming into a stationary matatu that was picking up passengers headed to Machakos and Nairobi.



Witnesses confirmed that six people died on the spot, including four KCSE candidates who were on their way home after completing their national examinations.

Several other passengers sustained critical injuries and were rushed to Machakos Level 5 Hospital and nearby health facilities in Makueni County.


Mbooni East Sub-County Police Commander Ibrahim Karani confirmed the incident, stating that the bodies of the deceased had been moved to Tower Mortuary, while investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.



Footage from the scene showed the matatu extensively damaged, with shattered windows, a broken windscreen, mangled seats, and debris scattered across the road.

The lorry was also severely damaged, indicating the force of the collision


The Ngoluni Junction–Mbooni stretch has recently recorded an increase in road safety incidents, raising concerns among residents, motorists, and transport operators. Authorities are urging drivers to observe speed limits and remain vigilant, especially on newly tarmacked and high-speed routes.
