Important Deadline Looms for KPLC Prepaid Meter Users in Kenya

Kenyans utilizing prepaid meters provided by the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) have until August 31, 2024, to update their meters. This update is crucial to ensure compliance with the Standard Transfer Specification (STS), a global protocol governing the transfer of tokens to prepaid meters.

Failure to update the prepaid meters by the specified deadline will result in them no longer accepting tokens, potentially causing inconvenience and disruptions in electricity usage for customers.

To facilitate the update process, KPLC will be sending two codes via SMS to customers upon purchasing tokens. These codes are a Reset Code and an Update Code. Both codes are essential for the update process, and customers must enter them in the correct order:

1. Enter the Reset Code

2. Enter the Update Code

3. Input the Token Number

It's important to note that the update process is free for customers. By following these steps and updating their meters before the deadline, customers can ensure uninterrupted access to electricity services.

KPLC urges all its prepaid meter users to act promptly and adhere to the provided instructions to avoid any inconvenience. Compliance with the STS protocol is essential for maintaining the efficiency and reliability of prepaid meter systems, benefiting both customers and the utility provider.

As the deadline approaches, KPLC will continue to communicate with customers to remind them of the importance of updating their prepaid meters. For any inquiries or assistance regarding the update process, customers are encouraged to reach out to KPLC's customer service channels.
